Welcome to our Volunteer Portal for the 2024 Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane. Thank you so much for registering your interest in joining us as volunteers at this amazing event.

Each year, we are grateful to be assisted by a number of volunteers and volunteer groups. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful and generous people working alongside us to put together one of Brisbane’s biggest community events!

In this portal you will have access to all documents pertaining to your volunteer role. We will do our best to place you in your preferred position, but there is a chance that we may need to place you elsewhere. We will be in touch in the lead up to the event via email correspondence to confirm your role and to get you any further information.

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

Your exact role for the day will be sent to you via email in the lead up to the event. In the mean time, please read the below carefully and email volunteer@emsaustralia.net.au to let us know that you have read it all and are confirming your attendance for your volunteer role for this event. Then don’t forget to pop the date in your diary, so you won’t double book it.

  • RACE OFFICE ASSISTANT

    The Race Office Assistants are required to check in participants before the event and hand over their race kits. Their tasks also include swapping shirt sizes and answering questions about the course and venue, best way to get home or to their cars after the event, what transport services will be available to get to the start lines, etc. If you have a friendly personality and some customer service experience, plus you’re not available on event day, then this role is a great one for you! The Race Office is located inside the Showbag Pavillion in the RNA Showgrounds, entry via O’Connell Terrace, Bowen Hills.

    The Race Office Assistants are required onsite on any or all of the below:

    Thursday 5 September from 7:30am – 12:30pm or 12:15pm – 6:15pm

    Friday 6 September from 7:30am – 12:30pm or 12:15pm – 6:15pm

    Saturday 7 September from 7:30am – 2:00pm

  • EVENT SET UP CREW

    The Event Set Up Crew will be assisting to set up event signage such as flags, fence mesh, and corflutes. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and setting up tables. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry and are looking to gain some hands-on experience. If you would like to help out but aren’t available on the Sunday, this role is for you.

    Event Set Up Crew will be required onsite from 9am – 2pm on Saturday 7 September

  • START LINE MARSHAL

    The Start Line Marshals will be assisting participants at the 10km and 5km start lines and directing them into the correct start zones which will be clearly labelled on event day. You will be scattered throughout the starting areas in key points such as public transport stations or near carparks and bus drop zones to ensure crowd flow is efficient. Start line marshals will also act as roaming information points and answer basic participant questions.

    Start Line Marshals will be required on Sunday 8 September:

    10km Start Line (Lytton Road, Murrarie) from 5:00am – 8:00am

    5km Start Line (Remora Road, Hamilton) from 8:)0am – 11:30am

  • INFORMATION TENT ASSISTANT

    The Information Tent Assistants are often the first point of contact for participants on event day. Their tasks include answering questions about the course and venue, lost and found, best way to catch transport back to their vehicles, etc. If you have a friendly personality and some customer service experience, this role is for you! Information tents will be located at both the 10km and 5km Start Lines, as well as inside the Finish Venue (RNA Showgrounds).

    The Information Tent Assistants are required onsite on Sunday 8 September:

    10km Start Area (Lytton Road, Murrarie) from 4:30am – 8:00am

    5km Start Area (Remora Road, Hamilton) from 8:00am – 11:30am

    Finish Venue (RNA Showgrounds) from 6:30am – 12:00pm

  • WATER STATION ASSISTANTS

    The Water Station Assistants are responsible for keeping participants hydrated while they complete the course. You will be located on course or at the Start or Finish Lines. You will be assisting with the set-up, pack down and maintenance of the water station… and most importantly cheering on participants!

    The Water Station Assistants will be required onsite on Sunday 8 September:

    10km Start Line (Queensport Road South and Lytton Road) from 4:30am – 8:00am

    5km Start Line Venue (Hercules Park, Hamilton) from 7:00am – 10:30am

    On Course (Links Avenue, Oxford Street, Bretts Wharf, Cameron Rocks Reserve, Mayne Road) from 5:00am – 12:00pm

    Finish Venue (RNA Showgrounds, Bowen Hills) from 6:00am – 12:30pm

  • FINISH LINE MARSHAL

    The Finish Line Marshals are integral to keep the finish venue running smoothly throughout the event. These volunteers will be split up to manage crowd flow across a number of areas in the finish venue including the finish chute, toilet and facilities queues, and general points of crowding identified across the venue. As this role involves getting people moving, if you have a loud and outgoing personaility, this role is for you!

    The Finish Line Marshals are required onsite on Sunday 8 September from 6:00am – 11:30am

  • SES - PEDESTRIAN MANAGEMENT

    The SES – Pedestrian Managers are responsible for ensuring that participants are safely crossing roads, cars are following all regular road rules and giving way to heavy walking traffic when congested, bicycles are being safe on roads or paths around event areas also. There is a need for guidance for many road users or pedestrians that may be out of their element, during large scale events like Bridge to Brisbane. So your role is to ensure safety for everyone around roads and public areas.

    SES will be required from 4:00am – 12:00pm on Sunday 8 September

  • FINISH VENUE ASSISTANT

    The Finish Venue Assistants are responsible for ensuring that our participants are supported in the below areas at the finish venue.

    These roles include:

    • Volunteer services: Assist in ensuring our volunteers sign on/off runs smoothly
    • VIP Tent entry: Cross reference participant names to the provided VIP list to allow entry
    • VIP Tent service: Make sure our VIPs are happy and enjoying themselves in the VIP area
    • Photo walls: Help participants take photos in front of anyphoto walls
    • Hydration Station: Help participants fill up their water bottles/cups at the water station/s
    • Medal Handout: Give every participant one medal each

    Finish Venue Assistants will be required from 6:00am – 12:00pm on Sunday 8 September

  • EVENT PACK DOWN CREW

    Event Pack Down volunteers will be assisting to pack up event signage including flags, fence mesh, and corflutes around the finish village. Other duties include moving crowd control barriers and packing down tables which is relevant to each volunteer’s capabilities. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the event industry to gain some hands-on experience. If you don’t mind some physical work or want to help out after an earlier shift, this role is for you.

    Event Pack Down Crew will be required onsite from 11:30am – 1pm on Sunday 8 September

The pocket guide is a necessity to carry with you at all times during your shift/s. It can help to identify you as an event volunteer and it also contains important contact information. In addition, it will also be needed for you to be able to access FREE public transport on event day.
